We went there one evening for happy hour. Well, I wasn't very "happy" once I got the huge bill for just two rounds of drinks--mostly beer. We went over to Griff's and were astounded by the inexpensive drinks and delicious food!

Tried this place on a Sunday. Only the barmaid was at work, she was waiting tables and doing everything else but cooking. Nice atmosphere. Appeared clean. Fireplace was cute. Food was OK. Barmaid was super.........but overworked. I'd eat and drink there again.

We visit Houston often and at least obe evening at Black Lab is a must. Closest to a British pub we have ever found in the U.S. Employees are always more than cordial. Black Lab gets thumbs up.

We had some colleagues come into town and they wanted to try a good Houston pub, so off we went to the Black Lab...
The beer selection wasn't very good. The fish and chips were tasty, but serving seasoned french fries is hardly a traditional styled British dish!! When we asked for the check to be split up three ways the gratuity grew by a factor of three. My gratuity wound up costing me more than my entree.
Overall, okay experience, but I won't go back.

Ah, The Black Labrador. It used to be so good. Now the staff don't seem to have a clue. Ordered a pint of Newcastle the last time I was there. It was poured from the right tap, but it wasn't Newcastle coming out of it!!! Food is now poor. Tastes pre-cooked. Oh, and ditch the stupid stuffed guardsman and dog.

My first visit to this pub. Other reviewers have praised the food and described the atmosphere, but nobody has offered specific info on the beer - so here goes. Ten taps, all European imports (i.e., Guinness, Bass, Newcastle, Old Speckled Hen, Fuller's ESB, Boddington's) except for New Belgium Fat Tire. Bottle choices are not extensive: more imports, a few US craft brews such as Saint Arnold Amber, Shiner Bock, Breckenridge Avalanche, and several cider choices. A variety of scotches are also available. It has a nice U-shaped bar area (where our group congregated, but this place is first and foremost a restaurant. Parking is extremely difficult in this area, so be prepared to walk some distance from your car to the pub.
